WASHINGTON, D.C.—As co-chair of National School Choice Week, Senator Ashley Moody is touting Florida’s educational success at yesterday’s U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions hearing titled Empowering Families Through Educational Choice in America.

Senator Ashley Moody said, “Student needs, not zip codes, should drive opportunities for their success. As a proud supporter of The Educational Choice for Children Act, which is now law, we are empowering parents by supporting educational freedom across the country. A special thank you to my friend and school choice advocate, John Kirtley of Step Up for Students, for testifying before yesterday’s Senate HELP Committee.”

During the hearing, Senator Moody introduced witness John Kirtley. Mr. Kirtley is the Chairman of Step Up for Students in Tampa. Step Up for Students is a state-approved, nonprofit scholarship funding organization that helps administer scholarships for Florida schoolchildren.

Additionally, Senator Moody applauded Governor Ron DeSantis’ announcement opting into the Education Freedom Tax Credit – a measure fought for and championed by Senator Moody via the Working Families Tax Cuts. See more below:
