“I will not take a paycheck while Senator Schumer denies one to our military servicemembers, law enforcement and government employees.”
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Senator Ashley Moody released the following statement announcing she will be donating her taxpayer-funded salary each day the federal government is shut down following the Democrats’ and Senator Chuck Schumer’s refusal to fund the government.
Senator Ashley Moody said, “For weeks, Republicans have invited our Democrat colleagues to pass a clean, bipartisan bill that keeps the government open at spending levels previously set under President Biden and Senator Schumer. But now, at the eleventh hour, we have been met with unserious demands that add over $1 trillion in unrelated and highly partisan priorities just to keep our government functioning. I will not take a paycheck while Senator Schumer denies one to our military servicemembers, law enforcement and government employees. Each day the government remains closed, I will be donating my salary to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay which provides help to vulnerable populations who may be impacted by this reckless choice.”
The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay provides:
- Sexual assault services:
- Providing forensic exams and victim advocacy services for sexual assault survivors;
- Trauma counseling for children and adults;
- The Florida Veterans Support Line;
- The First Responder Hope Line;
- Crisis Center staff who field emotional support calls at 911 law enforcement dispatch; and
- Medical transportation 911 ambulance service.

As Attorney General, Moody worked with Florida legislative leaders to expand the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay’s First Responder Hope Line statewide during the 2024 legislative session—resulting in a $1 million allocation for the expansion. The Hope Line provides 24/7, lifesaving assistance to first responders and officers struggling with PTSD and other mental-health challenges. The Hope Line reports that more than 6.6% of first responders have attempted suicide—10 times the national average.
