NEWS RELEASE: Senator Moody Says It’s Past Time to Designate Antifa a Terrorist Organization

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Ashley Moody is cosponsoring the Stop ANTIFA Act to codify President Trump’s executive order and national security presidential memorandum designating Antifa a domestic terrorist group and countering domestic terrorism and organized political violence. The bill would direct the National Joint Terrorism Task Force to investigate and treat Antifa as domestic terrorists, to stop their violent suppression of political speech, destruction of the rule of law, and the terror and intimidation they infuse into the communities they target.

Senator Ashley Moody said, “Violent extremists who target our law enforcement officers and destroy our communities must be held accountable. It’s far past time to designate Antifa a terrorist organization. The Stop ANTIFA Act makes it clear that organized violence has no place in America. I’m proud to cosponsor legislation that codifies President Trump’s actions to classify Antifa extremists as terrorists, and stand with my colleagues to protect Americans, defend the rule of law, and restore order on our streets.”

Joining Senator Moody in cosponsoring the bill are Senators Rick Scott (R-FL) and Mike Lee (R-UT).

Senator Moody is cosponsoring the Stop ANTIFA Act following President Trump issuing an executive order designating the group as a domestic terrorist organization. According to the order, Antifa is a militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the U.S. government, law enforcement authorities, and the rule of law. Antifa uses illegal means to organize and execute violence and terrorism nationwide to accomplish these goals.
