DORAL, Fla.—Senator Ashley Moody led a roundtable of law enforcement officials and Venezuelan American leaders to discuss the fight to end narcoterrorism stemming from Venezuela. At the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office headquarters, Senator Moody promoted several key legislative measures she is cosponsoring to fight back against drug cartels bringing deadly drugs into Florida communities—including the Stop Maduro Act and the BOLIVAR (Banning Operations and Leases with the Illegitimate Venezuelan Authoritarian Regime) Act.
Senator Ashley Moody said, “Narcoterrorism is a war on our country, our kids, and law and order. These terrorists smuggle overwhelming amounts of deadly drugs into our country and sell this poison destabilizing our communities. The cartels were emboldened and strengthened under the Biden administration, but thankfully President Trump has taken strong action against these terrorist organizations. The Stop Maduro Act and BOLIVAR Act will help the president as he leads the charge against the cartels. As I’ve done when I was a federal prosecutor, Florida’s Attorney General, and now as U.S. Senator, I will continue fighting to stop drug trafficking, remove violent criminals from our communities and save lives.”
Senator Moody is cosponsoring the Stop Maduro Act. This bill authorizes the Department of State to pay a reward of up to $100 million for information that directly leads to the arrest and conviction of dictator Nicolas Maduro. For example, under the bill, the State Department may pay such a reward to one or more individuals who furnish information directly leading to Maduro’s arrest and conviction in any country for specified narcotics-related offenses. Senator Moody is also cosponsoring Banning Operations and Leases with the Illegitimate Venezuelan Authoritarian Regime (BOLIVAR) Act. This bill prevents U.S. government agencies from entering into contracts with companies that are engaged in business with the Maduro regime. This measure builds on the efforts of President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to hold the Maduro regime accountable by reversing Biden’s appeasement policies and tightening economic pressure on the Maduro regime and its criminal enterprises. As the former Florida Attorney General, Senator Moody worked with law enforcement officers and prosecutors to put drug traffickers and gang members behind bars. Senator Moody also called on Biden to designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
