WASHINGTON—Today, Senator Ashley Moody announced
she is cosponsoring the No Community Development Block Grants for Sanctuary
Cities Act to amend the Housing and Community Development Act that
would prevent sanctuary cities from receiving federal subsidies. Senator Moody
is joined by Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Representative Ralph Norman
(R-SC-05) who is leading the companion legislation in the U.S. House of
Representatives.
Senator Ashley Moody said, “The days of red states
subsidizing the priorities of irresponsible, inept, and radically reckless
leaders in blue states is over. Taxpayer dollars should be prioritized in
states like Florida, where EVERY SINGLE COUNTY has signed an agreement to help
clean up Biden’s unprecedented unleashing of criminal illegal aliens into our
cities. The No Community Development Block Grants for Sanctuary Cities Act
is a critical step towards righting the numerous wrongs of the Biden
administration and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not being used to prop up
sanctuary cities and radical agendas.”
“Cities that encourage illegal immigration shouldn’t be rewarded with federal
housing subsidies,” said Senator Hagerty. “The Trump
administration has made it clear that illegal immigration will not be tolerated
anywhere in the United States, and cities that defy American sovereignty will
face the consequences. I’m pleased to reintroduce this legislation that prevents
taxpayer dollars from flowing to sanctuary cities that refuse to enforce the
law.”
“It’s simple: if you’re going to ignore federal immigration law, don’t expect
to get a dime of federal tax dollars,” said Congressman Norman.
“Sanctuary cities are putting politics over public safety, and that’s
unacceptable. This bill makes clear that cities choosing to harbor illegal
immigrants at the expense of public safety will no longer receive taxpayer
money.”
