WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Senator Ashley Moody shared a message celebrating the contributions of millions of Hispanics in Florida and across the country. Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 through October 15 each year.

Senator Ashley Moody said, “From the Spanish founding of St. Augustine to the vibrant streets of Tampa, Miami, Orlando, and Key West, our state’s history has been shaped by generations of Hispanic families. As the former Attorney General and now as Florida’s newest U.S. Senator, I am beyond proud to continue working alongside our Hispanic community to make our state freer, safer, and more prosperous. Feliz Mes de la Hispanidad!”

National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions of Americans tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. In 1968, Congress set aside one week for this observance and 20 years later expanded it to a month stretching from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The timing spans the anniversary of independence in several Central and South American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.
