WASHINGTON, D.C.— Senator Ashley Moody is honoring the thousands of innocent lives lost and the heroism of first responders on the 24th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks. Senator Moody offered video remarks commemorating Patriot Day.

Senator Ashley Moody said, “24 years ago today, the world as we knew it forever changed. The 9/11 terrorist attacks took thousands of innocent lives, and the effects of this loss of life can still be felt today. However, out of the ashes of these tragic attacks, Americans united to remind the world of our resolve to stand against evil and hatred. We will never forget those who were taken from us. Nor will we forget the heroism displayed by law enforcement officers, first responders and everyday Americans who bravely stepped up to help others. Their stories and legacies live on—inspiration for us all. America was hit hard, but we came back stronger.”

On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists killed 2,977 people and injured thousands more at the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, Congress established September 11th as Patriot Day, and requested that the occasion be annually recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
