WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Senator Ashley Moody addressed the U.S. Senate and presented a Florida’s Finest award to Riviera Beach Police Officer Andrew Hinds. In October, Officer Hinds quickly responded to a vehicle fire outside of a residence, waking the family inside and saving their lives. Officer Hinds will be presented with a certificate of recognition and a copy of the Congressional Record.

“On a Sunday morning in October, Officer Andrew Hinds was on regular patrol duty with the Riviera Beach Police Department…when he spotted smoke coming from a neighborhood…
“He immediately rushed towards the smoke, where he found a truck fully engulfed in flames just feet from a family’s house, threatening to spread and consume that house…
“Officer Hinds didn’t hesitate…
“With the fire consuming the truck, and while suspecting the vehicle could explode any moment, Officer Hinds quickly called dispatch, banged on the door to wake up the family and quickly moved everyone out of the home to get everyone out of harm’s way…
“I’m so proud to honor this heroic act today on the U.S. Senate Floor…with our Florida’s Finest Award…
“Ever since I was Florida’s Attorney General and now as our state’s newest United States Senator, it has been important to me to honor the extraordinary work of our selfless law enforcement officers that protect Floridians every day…

As Florida’s Attorney General, Senator Moody highlighted heroic law enforcement actions through her Back the Blue Award. During her tenure as Attorney General, Senator Moody gave out more than 50 Back the Blue Awards. The “Florida’s Finest” Award will continue the tradition of highlighting extraordinary Floridians who take heroic actions within their communities.
