Moody’s remarks
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, during the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee hearing on Border Management, Federal Workforce and Regulatory Affairs titled Match Ready: Oversight of the Federal Government’s Border Management and Personnel Readiness Efforts for the Decade of Sports, Senator Ashley Moody highlighted several homeland security challenges to address, specifically as riots and chaos break out across Los Angeles ahead of the Olympics and continuing her efforts to prevent human trafficking as Florida prepares to host the FIFA World Cup matches next year. Additionally, Senator Moody raised concerns regarding rapidly increasing drone use and their impacts on homeland security. She recently introduced the Drone Espionage Act.
Senator Ashley Moody said, “What we are seeing in Los Angeles is a direct result of poor leadership. Florida is the blueprint for how state, local and federal leaders come together ahead of major sporting events and events of national interest to ensure law and order—they collaborate with our law enforcement ahead of time to ensure folks are safe. When it comes to our national security, weak leadership is a direct cause of civil unrest that could have been avoided. Ahead of the Olympics, L.A. is going to have its work cut out for them, and I urge these national and international event committees to address these leadership challenges when planning events of this scale in the future to ensure the wellbeing of all visitors and spectators.”
