WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Ashley Moody took to the Senate floor this week to pass her National Fraud Enforcement Division Act – a bill aimed at codifying the administration’s anti-fraud enforcement division. The legislation was blocked by Senate Democrats.

“Democrats shockingly continue to side with fraudsters and against hardworking Americans. Combatting fraud should be a 100-0 issue. Acting as good stewards of taxpayer dollars is the most foundational aspect of being a public servant, yet we continue to battle a party that seemingly wants to protect institutional grift,” said Senator Ashley Moody.

BACKGROUND:

  • More than $260 billion in fraud nationwide has been uncovered by the Administration.
  • Senator Moody filed the National Fraud Enforcement Division Act the day after it passed in the U.S. House. The legislation creates a National Fraud Enforcement Division within the DOJ to go after fraudsters and bad actors who steal taxpayer dollars.
  • Senator Moody serves on the Senate Anti-Fraud Task Force, an oversight effort focused on identifying fraud against the federal government, exposing systemic vulnerabilities, recovering taxpayer dollars, and advancing reforms that strengthen accountability.
  • Senator Moody has always been committed to combating fraud and protecting taxpayer dollars. In the past year and a half alone, Senator Moody:
    • Introduced the SWIPES Act to combat gift card fraud and protect seniors;
    • Introduced the Staged Accident Fraud Prevention Act to extend criminal penalties to make intentionally staging an accident with a commercial motor vehicle a federal crime, protecting all drivers on the roads and preventing con artists from driving up the cost of insurance;
    • Introduced the Stop Child Care Scams Act to fight fraud in federal childcare programs;
    • Introduced the STOP Scams Against Seniors Act to protect seniors from scams and financial fraud;
    • Introduced the No Aid for Ghost Students Act to stop fraudsters, often called “ghost students,” from using stolen or fake identities to submit FAFSA applications and take federal student aid money;
    • Joined the Senate Anti-Fraud Task Force, an oversight effort focused on identifying fraud against the federal government, exposing systemic vulnerabilities, recovering taxpayer dollars, and advancing reforms that strengthen accountability;
    • Introduced the Punishing Health Care Fraudsters Act, which increases financial and criminal penalties for health care fraud across the board; and
    • Cosponsored the SCAM Act, which would increase safety and protect the integrity of American citizenship by ensuring individuals who join terrorist organizations or are naturalized through fraud or deception can have their citizenship revoked; and
    • Cosponsored the Protecting American Taxpayers Act, comprehensive anti-fraud legislation that includes 16 commonsense measures that would stop bad actors, protect taxpayer dollars and recover stolen funds, providing $240 billion in projected savings.
